Cookie Policy

Last updated: 2 September 2026.

The short version

We use as few cookies as we can get away with. Only strictly necessary cookies are set automatically. Everything else — including affiliate tracking — waits until you say yes.

What cookies are

Small text files a website stores on your device. Some are needed for the site to work. Others watch what you do. We use as few as we can, and we tell you which is which.

What we currently use

Strictly necessary — always on

These make the site function and, under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), do not require consent. On this site they are limited to the cookies WordPress sets to operate the site and to keep administrators logged in. If you are just reading, you are setting almost nothing.

Analytics — not currently in use

We do not currently run analytics on this site. If we add it, it will be listed here and it will not run until you consent.

Affiliate tracking — consent required

This is how the site is funded, so we will be direct about it.

When you click a link to a retailer, an affiliate cookie lets that retailer see the visit came from us and pay us commission if you buy. It records the referral — not what you looked at, and not what you bought at an item level. These cookies are non-essential and will only be set with your consent.

If you decline them, the site works exactly the same for you. Every review, every score, every measurement stays fully available. You will not be nagged, degraded, or shown a worse version of the page. We would simply not be paid for that visit — which is our problem, not yours.

What we do not use

No advertising or retargeting cookies. No social media tracking pixels. No behavioural profiling. Given the subject matter, we think readers are entitled to browse without being followed around the internet afterwards. That is a deliberate design decision, and it is why you will not find a Facebook pixel here.

Third-party sites

When you click through to a retailer you leave our site, and their cookies and privacy policy take over. We have no control over what they set. Check their policies if you want to know what they do.

Changing your mind

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working. Most browsers also offer a private or incognito mode, which discards cookies when you close the window.

Legal basis

We set non-essential cookies only with your consent, as required by PECR and UK GDPR. Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from the consent requirement. Where we record a consent choice, that record is covered by our Privacy Policy.
